As an organisation supporting the development of new media arts practice in Australia, ANAT aims to support artists and practitioners across a wide spectrum of artforms. Increasingly ANAT promotes dialogue and practice across a variety of disciplines including visual arts, performance, dance, film, architecture, design, sound etc. – reflecting the shifting evolution of singular artforms and disciplines into more hybrid and multi-layered forms.
We are pleased in this second issue of Filter to focus on sound arts and in particular highlight the work of ANAT members who are active in the field. ANAT has always had a strong association with the sound arts and has supported many individuals to attend national and international festivals and to participate in Masterclasses, Summer Schools and workshops.
This issue of Filter is launched at Liquid Architecture 5, one of Australia’s most significant sound art festivals. We are pleased to include a feature article on Liquid Architecture as well as Ros Bandt writing on the Sound Design Project and Lisa Gye interview with ANAT member, sound artist and performer Adam Nash.
The next few months are a very busy time for Australian new media artists with key events ISEA04 (International Symposium on Electronic Art), BEAP (Biennale of Electronic Art Perth) and MAAP (Multimedia Art Asia Pacific) all occurring within 3 months of each other. These major events will exhibit the work of Australian artists to broad audiences and provide opportunities for networking and project development. ANAT is pleased to offer ANAT members discount registration at both ISEA04 and BEAP.
ANAT is pleased to support events such as ISEA , BEAP and MAAP and encourages the participation of ANAT members in these and other festivals. We encourage new and existing ANAT members to check out these and future events – and remember – the ANAT Conference and Worskhop Fund can help you get there!
